Aquarium of the Americas - 1 Canal St. at the Mississippi River, 861-2537 - Exhibits sharks, penguins and exotic fish.  Caribbean reef, sea otter gallery and more. Open 9:30-6 Sun-Thu, 9:30-7 Fri-Sat (last ticket sold one hour before closing) 

Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve - Hwy. 3134, Crown Point, 589-3882   Discover a Louisiana swamp and wildlife in their natural habitat through paths and bridges. Open 9-5 daily.


Bayou Segnette State Park - 777 Westbank Expwy., Westwego, 736-7140 -- Camping, picnic areas, playgrounds and boat launch to the Barataria Basin. Open 7 a.m.-8 p.m. Mon-Sun.

Global Wildlife Center- Hwy. 40, Folsom, 985-624-WILD (9453) 
Safari park featuring zebras, giraffes, bison, llamas, deer and more. Hand-feed the animals.  Over 900 acres.  Open 9-3 Mon-Fri, 9-4 Sat-Sun.

Bayou Sauvage National Wildlife Refuge - Chef Menteur Hwy. to Ridge Trail, 646-7543 -  23,000+ acres of freshwater marsh preserves. Weekend canoeing and hiking trips available. Open dawn-dusk daily.
