Though geographically a deep southern city, New Orleans can in
no way be stereotyped as a classic southern town. Those who
call us 'New Orleenz" (ugh!!!) and think that the locals all
drink Mint Juleps on the veranda quickly learn that the melting
pot of cultures that is New Orleans has produced a culture and
language that is all it's own.
The links on the right provide important resources to remember
and understand "Noo Awlins Cultcha." (To those
of you who grew up drinking something other than Mississippi
River water from these parts, "the culture of the working class
indigenous population of the New Orleans metro area."). |
