Again New Orleans Answered The Call
To achieve President Kennedy's lofty goal by the end of the 1960's we would need to develop and build a giant rocket capable of such a task. The challenge of building the Saturn V rocket designed to bring man to the moon was given to the workers at the Michoud Assembly Facility In New Orleans. On July 16, 1969, Apollo 11 powered by a Saturn V rocket built in New Orleans launched on the mission which would result in the first of many successful lunar landings by the US astronauts meeting the challenge charged by President Kennedy eight years earlier.
